Live from the Kill House

Today's episode is a conversation with Golfweek's Beth Ann Nichols (@GolfweekNichols on twitter) all about the women's golf and the LPGA tour. Since the last time Randy caught up with Beth Ann back in early May a lot has happened--Nelly Korda is a major champion and #1-ranked player in the world, Yuka Saso took home the US Women's Open at Olympic (thanks, in part, to Lexi's Sunday collapse), and so much more. Randy asks her about the Evian and its standing on the women's major championship circuit, the Solheim Cup, and the new Commissioner. Lots of ground covered in this one and thanks as always to Beth Ann for his knowledge and insight. Enjoy!

The No Laying Up collective chops it up with a wide variety of guests from all corners of the golf world, and more importantly, guests from the golf-adjacent world.

Episode 150: Beth Ann Nichols

Maybe the forgotten country in the UK, the TrapDraw heads to Wales this week in conjunction with the Euro Tour to learn a bit about the place. Randy is joined by golf writer and Welshman, James Corrigan, to discuss the joys and beauties of his home land. From sights to see, cities to visit, and courses to play, we think you'll learn a thing or two about the country and maybe even be inspired to visit one day. Enjoy!

The TrapDraw is headed to Midland, Michigan along with the LPGA Tour this week to explore an area of the country that is often overlooked. Tron and Randy touch on a number of different topics to begin the episode before welcoming on former Midland resident, and Randy's old pal from graduate school, Scott the Arborist. Scott spent several years living in Midland after school and shares all the knowledge he has about his former home. Plus, a fascinating discussion on trees breaks out towards the end of the show. Enjoy!

This is it, the final installment of the 'A Course Called America' Book Series! Randy and Tom Coyne discuss the conclusion of the book, talk about the golf lists at the back, and answer listener-submitted questions. The final 25 minutes of this episode is very special--Tom's father, Jim, the main inspiration behind the journey, joins to reflect on his own cross-country trip to San Diego so many years ago, as well as what it means to him to have read his son's words. Enjoy!

This week's TrapDraw is a worldwide exclusive! Lee Sanderlin, of Jackson, Mississippi, joins Tron Carter to discuss his penance for finishing last in his fantasy football league--24 hours in a Waffle House (with time off for each waffle consumed). The story went viral last week and Lee, a big TrapDraw fan, eschewed larger media outlets to give us the exclusive. Hear all about the ordeal--the strategy, worst parts, lives he touched--and much more about Lee. Enjoy!

We're back with the third installment of the 'A Course Called America' book series, this time detailing the second half of the book (pages 195 and beyond). Randy and Tom chat about a litany of topics out of the book before welcoming on Ben Hotaling, one of the founders of Brough Creek National which Tom bestowed with the honor of the Great American Golf Course. Ben details what made him and his buddies create a seven-hole layout in one of their backyards, what he's learned along the way, and how people can go see and play it for themselves. Enjoy!

This week we head to Sweden on the TrapDraw! The men's and women's European Tours are hosting the Scandinavian Mixed at Vallda G&CC in Gothenburg, Sweden. Unlike other mixed events, this is a singular competition involving the men and women for the week. It's a pretty cool concept and one Tron and Randy are eager to check out on Golf Channel. After covering some current events in Part 1, Tron chats with his wife's Aunt and Uncle, Stockholm residents and golf enthusiasts, all about their fine country. Main topics include golf, food and restaurants--enjoy!

In this week's episode Randy talks to San Francisco-native, Kira Dixon. Kira works for both the Golf Channel and USGA and is covering the US Women's Open at Olympic Club this week. She discusses the role golf played in her childhood and how she found her way back to it professionally, how she got into pageant life (she was Miss America 2015), and a bunch more. Enjoy!

Better late than never this week! We are off to Las Vegas in conjunction with the LPGA Match Play event at Shadow Creek. Joining Tron and Randy is Benito Martinez, Vegas resident, and food/beverage extraordinaire. Benito has a long history in the restaurant business which he discusses before getting into his top picks for a trip out to Sin City. Whether you've never been (like us), or are a Vegas veteran, we promise you'll come away with a lot of new ideas, and food to try, on your next trip. Enjoy!

Welcome to the first of four episodes exploring Tom Coyne's new book, "A Course Called America". While not a new concept broadly speaking, this book series is a new adventure here on the TrapDraw. And who better, and what better, to give it a go than Tom Coyne and his new book. The hope for this series is for listeners to pick up "A Course Called America" (details for that below), read it, and then tune in to hear an in-depth discussion of what they've just read, featuring not only Tom and Randy but special guests from the book. The Series schedule will be as follows:

Part 2: First Half of the Book--Thursday, June 10th

Part 3: Second Half of the Book--Thursday, June 24th

In today's show, Randy chats with Tom about the genesis for the book, how it differs from his Ireland and Scotland iterations, what it's like to plan a 50-state, 300-round golf odyssey, and so much more. Enjoy!

138: Tom Coyne, A.C.C.A. Book Series Part 1

The TrapDraw is headed to Charleston this week to "preview" the PGA Championship at Kiawah. Tron and Randy catch up on some matters before welcoming on local resident and F&B expert, Shep Rose. Shep is one of the stars of the Bravo show, 'Southern Charm'. He discusses how he found his way on that show, what it's like living in Charleston, and gives a bunch of great food and bar recommendations. Enjoy!

137: Charleston, SC

We're back where we these previews all started, Dallas, the freaking Metroplex! Tron and Randy do their usual thing and chat about current affairs for the first part of the episode before welcoming on this week's special guest, Ben Kirby. If you don't know Ben perhaps you know his social media account, @PreachersNSneakers. Ben is a Dallas-area resident and discusses how the account got started, what he's learned along the way, and breaks down the preachers that appear most often on his feed. Along the way there is a really interesting discussion on the state of modern Christianity in America. Enjoy!

136: The Big D

In today's episode Randy catches up with Golfweek's Beth Ann Nichols (@GolfweekNichols on twitter) to chat about the 2021 LPGA season thus far. Beth Ann was recently named the first-ever female president of the Golf Writers Association of America. She talks about that position and what her role and responsibilities include. They then discuss everything from Lydia Ko's reemergence to the ultra-impressive breakthrough victory of Patty Tavatanakit at the ANA Inspiration. And so much more. Enjoy!

135: Beth Ann Nichols

We're off to Charlotte this week on the TrapDraw! Tron and Randy clean up some items in the first part of the pod and then welcome on Cincinnati-native, and current Charlotte resident, Luke Kuechly. You know Luke from his Hall-of-Fame NFL career where he spent his entire tenure playing for the Carolina Panthers. He talks about the city, his favorite spots, what it was like playing chess against Drew Brees on the football field, and so much more. Enjoy!

134: The Faux Queen City

Big decision to make this week for our preview location, and the more we thought about it, the easier it got. Singapore is a place both Tron and Randy want to get to (via Singapore Airlines ideally), so it made sense to talk about the island-nation this week as they play host to the LPGA. Joining TC and Randy is very special guest, Mark Adams. Mark has lived in Singapore for many years and travels extensively all across the region. The guys ask him all about his home, from food to golf and everything in-between. And be sure to stick around for Mark's *crazy* experience on Singapore Airlines in 1991, as well as some bonus NBA talk at the end. Enjoy!
